409 – Derek and the Dominos – Key to the Highway
April 6, 2011

Went to a funeral service of a fellow musician today. It was very emotional; even though I didn’t know him very well, after the service I felt I knew him better, and regretted we didn’t get to meet more often.

On my way back I bought [[Derek and the Dominos]]’ album [[Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs]], which I hadn’t listened to for years; and this one stood out as I remembered the solos and could sing them in myself by heart.

Paul, this one’s for you.

400 – Led Zeppelin – Travelling Riverside Blues
March 30, 2011

I love this Led Zeppelin version of the classic Robert Johnson song Travelling Riverside Blues.
Great slide playing and Plant is relatively quiet 😉
This song was rereleased in 1990, and even reached #7 in the USA.

245 – ZZ Top – Vincent Price Blues

245 - ZZ Top - Vincent Price Blues

What do you get when you use .08 strings on your electric guitar, tune it back to C and run it through a whole bunch of guitar effects? [[ZZ Top]]’s [[Vincent Price]] Blues.
There are tones and sounds in this one… I’d love to be able to play like this.

237 - Fleetwood Mac - World Keeps On Turning

Some more blues by [[Fleetwood Mac]] from the [[Peter Green]] era. Actually, it’s more like a Green solo song. I’m going to try to play this on stage in february…

236 – The Allman Brothers Band – It’s Not My Cross To Bear

236 - The Allman Brothers - It's Not My Cross To Bear

Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of music from my past, when I was into blues a lot. I rediscovered this song by [[The Allman Brothers]] which I sang in a band for some time, but strangely entirely forgot over the years.
It’s a weird feeling hearing that again and thinking about the times I sung that. And feeling the gap between me and the guy I was.

(update 2015: I now only remember that I sang that. But no feelings go with it. As if I read it in a book.)

215 – ZZ Top – Gimme All Your Lovin’

215 - ZZ Top - Gimme All Your Lovin'

Ha, those were the days back in the 80s. Bad drum samples and processed guitars. Well, I guess it’s the same now, only the producers got better computers.
Still… this rocks! Compared to the other crap the eighties left us.

178 – Jethro Tull – A Song For Jeffrey
August 7, 2008

178 - Jethro Tull - Song for Jeffrey

I’m not that much of a [[Jethro Tull]] fan, but in their first bluesy incarnation they wrote some really great songs.
Just watch this great performance, I’ve never seen a bass player playing bluesharp; also, that’s mr [[Tony Iommi]] on guitar!

Youtube – live in 1968.

127 – Fleetwood Mac – Green Manalishi

127 - Fleetwood Mac - Green Manalishi

Psychedelic, schizophrenic, apocalyptic maniac blues rock… [[Peter Green]] is about to lose it here in the last days of his version of [[Fleetwood Mac]].

125 – ZZ Top – Just Got Paid Today

125 - ZZ Top - Just Got Paid Today

I realize there aren’t that much new songs on this here site. That’s gonna stay like that for a while, because I think there isn’t much really good material made nowadays.
[[ZZ Top]], the best little blues band from Texas, made some really tasty blues records in the early 1970s. Later on they lost it a bit by having too much electronics added.

118 – Stealers Wheel – Stuck in the middle with you

118 - Stealers Wheel - Stuck in the middle with you

[[Gerry Rafferty]] and his friends… you can clearly hear him contributing to this song. I know this one all my life. Love it.

And I hate it that most of the people know this because of the movie Reservoir Dogs. I once accidentally stumbled upon it while watching TV, saw a few seconds of it and saw more gruesome deaths than I had seen in a long time. Shortly afterwards my TV broke down and I never replaced it.

Now I got a TV again because my wife had one. But I’ll never, ever, watch any movie by Quentin Tarantino again.

Youtube – I really didn’t know there was a clip! Or promotional movie, or how they called it back in 1976.
